BRICK, NJ — Brick Memorial senior Leah Scarpelli has signed a national letter of intent to continue her academic and soccer careers at Penn State University.

Scarpelli, who plays for Cedar Stars Academy out of Tinton Falls, orally committed to play for the Nittany Lions in 2016, when she was preparing for her sophomore year of high school. She played for the Mustangs for one season before the U.S. Soccer Federation prohibited girls in its development academy from playing high school soccer. She scored 9 goals and had 7 assists in the 2016 season where she saw limited action because of her national team commitments.

On the U.S. national team Scarpelli was a defender but played forward at Brick Memorial. She spent last year recovering from a knee injury.
