BRICK, NJ — Brick Township's plans to host drive-in movies during the summer of 2020 to give township families socially distanced entertainment in the coronavirus pandemic has been hugely popular.

It's so popular, in fact, that township officials have moved it to a larger site to accommodate more people.

"Due to the overwhelming response to the Drive-In Movie announcement, the township has made some changes," officials said in an announcement on the township's Facebook page.

The first movie will be "The Lion King," and is scheduled to be shown June 5. Registration will begin at noon Monday, and Brick residents can register online at the recreation department's program registration site.

"If you register and cannot attend the movie, please call recreation so your reservation can be given to another family," officials said.

Anyone who registers but does not show up and does not call to cancel the registration may be prohibited from registering for additional movies.

The movies will be shown at 8:30 p.m. and people will be allowed in beginning at 8 p.m.

The rest of the schedule is as follows:

  • June 12: Star Wars (register beginning June 8)
  • June 19: Frozen II (register beginning June 15)
  • June 26: Jumanji (register beginning June 22)
  • July 3: Toy Story 4 (register beginning June 29)
