Come Celebrate The World Cup Win With Christie Rampone

The Jersey Shore native will be feted today at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

You watched the games. You cheered the victories. And maybe you were even able to make it to New York for the parade.

Now it’s time to honor Christie Rampone and celebrate the U.S. Women’s National Team’s World Cup championship back where she started: at the Jersey Shore.

Rampone, the captain of the 2015 World Cup champions, will be feted Tuesday, July 28, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with a celebration that will include a performance of the national anthem by Jacquie Lee, the Colts Neck teen who was a finalist on ”The Voice.”

There will be autographs and commemmorative T-shirts for the first 500 people.

The event begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Kurr Atrium at the hospital, on Route 33 in Neptune.

Rampone, who grew up in Point Pleasant and now lives in Manasquan, was a three-sport star in high school, setting records in field hockey and soccer and was the first female to score more than 2,000 career points in basketball for the Panthers. She went on to star in both basketball and soccer at Monmouth University, cutting her basketball career at the school short when she was called up to the U.S. women’s national soccer team.

She played on the 1999 World Cup champion and is the ninth captain in the history of the U.S. women’s national team, which also won Olympic gold in 2004, 2008 and 2012, with ‘08 and ‘12 coming under her captaincy.
