Could Great Adventure Be Renamed 'Six Flags Great Cubs'? Mets Fans Hope Not

A wager between the Jackson amusement park and its sister park in Chicago hinges on the outcome of the Mets-Cubs baseball games.

If you’ve been afraid to ride Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure, would it seem less scary if it was renamed “Kingda Cubs”?

That possibility exists, if the Chicago Cubs could somehow rally to win the National League Championship Series, due to a friendly wager between Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson and Six Flags Great America near Chicago.

The Mets lead the series 2-0 heading into Tuesday night’s game at Wrigley Field in Chicago, and if they beat the Cubs two more times, the Chicago area Six Flags will become “Six Flags Great Mets,” with its signature roller coaster, Golaith, becoming “GoMets.”

If the Mets should somehow collapse, the Jackson park would become “Six Flags Great Cubs” along with the renaming of Kingda Ka to “Kingda Cubs,” said Kristin Siebeneicher, spokeswoman for Six Flage Great Adventure.

“We have never wagered a bet like this before,” Siebeneicher said. “It’s a friendly competition among Six Flags sister parks, but we really hate to lose. We’re rooting for the Mets all the way.”

Near Chicago, Six Flags Great America is taunting the Mets with a sign outside their park that reads, “A Great Adventure: Watching the Mets lose to the Cubs.” While in New Jersey, visitors to Six Flags Fright Fest will see signs rooting for the Mets as they stroll the pumpkin and cobweb-adorned midways this weekend.

Six Flags Great America won a bet with Six Flags St. Louis after the Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in four games of the National League Division Series. Last week, the Missouri theme park renamed its classic “American Thunder” wooden roller coaster “Cubs Thunder.”

Six Flags Great Adventure and Great America have pledged to retain the names throughout the remainder of the Fright Fest Halloween season which ends Nov. 1.
