BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township Board of Education is seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on the school board, after one member resigned because she moved out of state.

Missy Parker, who was elected to the board in 2020, announced her resignation via a letter that was read at Tuesday's school board meeting. Parker said she resigned her seat as of Aug. 1 because her family moved to Georgia because of a change in her husband's employment.

"I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their faith in me as a board member," Parker's letter, read by board president Stephanie Wohlrab, said in part. "To the community, thank you for putting your trust in me. It was not something I took lightly and I always valued your input. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your children's education."

The school board will have to appoint someone to fill Parker's seat, and because her resignation — effective the date she became a Georgia resident — came after the July 25 deadline for school board candidate filings, the person appointed to her seat will serve the rest of Parker's term, which ends Dec. 31, 2023.

People who want to be considered for the vacancy should send a letter of interest and a resume to Wohlrab. They can be mailed to Board President Stephanie Wohlrab, 101 Hendrickson Ave., Brick, NJ 08724.
