BRICK, NJ — A Brick Township intersection that has been the site of multiple crashes, including one that killed two people in June, has gotten a new traffic signal pattern.

The traffic signal sequence at the intersection of Brick Boulevard and Chambers Bridge Road has been changed by the Ocean County Engineering Department, officials said. The changes began Wednesday and were anticipated to be completed on Thursday, said Donna Flynn, Ocean County spokesperson.

The changes come at the request of the Brick Township Police Department, Flynn said. The goal is to improve the operation of the signal for the northbound left-turn lanes from Brick Boulevard to Chambers Bridge Road, she said.

The specific changes to the signal sequence are as follows, according to information provided to Brick Township police by the Ocean County Engineering Department:

All southbound traffic signals will be green at once, with all northbound signals red while the southbound is moving.

Once the southbound phase is complete, southbound movements will have red signals while all northbound movements will have green signals.

The right-turn lane from Chambers Bridge Road onto Brick Boulevard southbound will have a stop sign instead of a yield sign.

The Ocean County Engineering Department has placed large message boards in the area to notify drivers about the changes.
