Heart Of Bridgewater Library Branch Receives Facelift From Friends

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The June Adams Garden, located in the heart of the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey’s (SCLSNJ) Bridgewater branch, was enhanced this spring 2024 thanks to the Friends of the Somerset County Library.

"Funding the renovation of the June Adams Garden has been possible because of the generosity of our patrons who donate to and buy books from our continuous book sale," said Maryanne Guterl, member of the Friends of the Somerset County Library. "Renovating the garden with those funds was a natural choice for us. June’s dedication to the library, first as its director and later as a cherished member and officer of the Friends of the Somerset County Library, has left an indelible mark on our community. The garden will stand as a tribute to her ongoing contributions and enduring legacy. We were absolutely thrilled to share the beautiful updates with her in July, celebrating her remarkable impact in person."

Sacchitelli Landscape Concepts, Inc. — via direction from the Friends — designed and executed the update, including: pruning the existing Japanese maple trees, adding patches of creeping Jenny, adding a planter with creeping Jenny and lady in red ferns among the existing pachysandra bed, and replacing mulch with beautifully designed stone features. The garden lights were also repaired, so the space shines throughout the evening hours.

The courtyard garden was dedicated to June Adams on May 3, 2023. Adams was director of SCLSNJ from 1975-1990. She was also president of the Friends of the Somerset County Library from 2000-2022.

"We are delighted to reveal our newly updated courtyard garden, where its timeless beauty has been both preserved and enhanced,” said Lynn Mazur, branch manager. “The landscaper has expertly maintained the garden’s cherished original elements while adding fresh, vibrant touches."

Continued Mazur, "We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Friends of the Somerset County Library for their generous support, which made this transformation possible. Their commitment has helped us create a truly breathtaking space for our Library. This update is particularly meaningful as it honors June Adams, whose vision and dedication have inspired and shaped our Library for decades."
