2 Chased, Caught After Trying To Break Into Cars At North Caldwell Pool: Police

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — A concerned resident who called 911 after seeing something unusual was able to get two potential burglars off the streets.

North Caldwell police posted on Facebook on Sunday night:

"Three actors were attempting to break into vehicles in the town pool lot. A concerned resident dialed 911 and officers arrived within seconds.

"A pursuit ensued and suspect blew out two tires on a curb near Robin Hill Road. They continued at a high rate of speed on just two tires and two rims."

Police said that two suspects got out of the car on the corner of Bloomfield and Brookside avenues in Caldwell. Then, police gave chase on foot and caught the pair.

"Fortunately nobody was injured," posted the police. "But this is also a stern reminder to lock your cars and never leave the key fobs inside. The thieves are getting more brazen and reckless."

"Thanks to all of the neighboring towns for helping as we are all in this together."

The post drew more than 100 comments, with many thanking police and some thanking the citizen who called as well.

"Great job and glad no officers or innocent people were hurt!!" wrote one woman.
