On Sunday January 12, 2020, the West Essex men’s Epee team placed 2nd, silver medal, out of 55 of New Jersey’s High School fencing teams attending the annual Cetrulo fencing event. Last year the team placed 3rd in the 2019 competition, held at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey.
The attending fencers all woke before 6am to board the team bus by 6:30 am. “Pools” of fencers are divided into 8 schools each. During the morning pools, each fencer fenced the equivalent of 7 bouts to seed the afternoon pools resulting in the final top 3 schools. The West Essex men’s Epee team only lost to 1 school in the afternoon elimination round resulting in a 2nd place standing.
