Caldwell Kicks Off Pride Month With Flag Raising

CALDWELL, NJ —The town of Caldwell held a Pride Flag raising Wednesday morning, June 8.

"A Pride Flag will be raised on the flagpole over the green. We invite all to attend the ceremony and raising of the flag as we celebrate Pride Month," the city said in a message.

Pride Month traces its roots to and commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Riots, or Stonewall Uprising.

On June 28, 1969, police in New York City raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in the West Village. The raid sparked six days of protests.
