CALDWELL, NJ — The Caldwell Borough Council gave preliminary approval to an ordinance that would expand the maximum number of police officers allowed on the municipal payroll at their recent meeting.

The council voted to approve Ordinance 1450-23 on first reading at their Oct. 17 meeting (watch the video here; discussion begins at the 53:20 mark).

If it survives another council vote, the ordinance will authorize two more patrol officer positions, for a maximum of 12. The proposal comes in response to recommendations made in a police study that the council received earlier this year from The Ambrose Group.
