Caldwell Weather Update: More Snow, Schools Delayed Opening On Tuesday

CALDWELLS, NJ — Keep those snow shovels handy if you live in the Caldwells.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), there’s a likelihood of snow, freezing rain and sleet on Tuesday in the Caldwells. A winter weather advisory, a hazardous weather outlook and a coastal flood statement were in effect for the area.

SCHOOLS IN THE CALDWELLS

The Caldwell-West Caldwell Public School District had a delayed opening on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Before care will not operate, administrators said.

The North Caldwell Public School District had a two-hour delayed opening on Tuesday due to the inclement weather.

The West Essex Regional School District operated on two-hour delayed opening schedule on Tuesday for both staff and students.

CODE BLUE

Essex County has declared a “Code Blue” alert until 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 due to the frigid temperatures. Shelters and warming stations are open in Newark, Montclair, Irvington and East Orange. Read More: 'Code Blue' Shelters Open In Essex County (See The List)

LOCAL FORECAST FOR THE CALDWELLS

Here’s what is in store for the Caldwells this week, according to the NWS forecast (as of Tuesday morning):

Tuesday: Snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 3pm, then a chance of snow. High near 29. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northeast wind 7 to 9 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 16. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 24. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. West wind 8 to 13 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a steady temperature around 22. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. West wind around 11 mph.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. West wind around 10 mph.

Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow after 1am. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 28.

Friday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 29. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 23. Blustery.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. Blustery.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 29.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 19.
