Caldwells Obituary: Anthony Janish, West Essex High School Teacher

The former Caldwell resident taught U.S. history for over 40 years at West Essex High School.

North Caldwell, NJ – Former Caldwell resident Anthony Janish passed away on June 12.

The following obituary comes via the William J. Leber Funeral Home:

“Anthony G. Janish, of Chester, a long-time teacher, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2016.

“He was born in Newark to the late Bernard and Marie (nee Della Vecchia) Janish on Sept. 6, 1941. He had lived in Union, Roseland and Caldwell before moving to Chester 13 years ago.

“He was graduated from Union High School and then attended Montclair State University. He went on to receive his master's degree from Seton Hall University.

“He began his teaching career in Morris Hills High School and then taught U.S. History for over 40 years at West Essex High School in North Caldwell.

“He coached various sports teams over the years such as wrestling, softball and track. His passion for running continued throughout his life and he competed in 14 marathons all over the country.

“He was professional, caring, competitive and strong and touched so many lives as a teacher and coach. He will be remembered and missed by all.

“Mr. Janish is survived by his wife, Diane Howard; his step-daughter, Jessica Raczyk and her husband, Kevin; his brothers, Robert and his wife, Dolores, Richard and his wife, Mary Anne, and Barney and his wife, Maryann; his sons, Anthony J., Michael, and Christopher and his wife, Julie; his daughters, Jeanine Kent and her husband, Doug, Joanna Rodriguez and her husband, Ricardo; six cherished grandchildren; and of course his treasured St. Bernard mix, ''Marlin.''
