Caldwells Obituary: Navy Veteran ‘Cherished Time With Family’

Marion Luise Thyren, a longtime resident of the Caldwells, passed away. She was 96.

CALDWELLS, NJ — Marion Luise Thyren, a longtime resident of the Caldwells and graduate of Caldwell High School in 1941, died Sunday. She was 96.

According to her obituary:

“Marion Luise Thyren, 96, of West Orange, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 19, 2020.

“Graveside Services were held privately under the direction of Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, Roseland, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Please visit shookfarmer.com for updated service information.

“Marion was born in New York City in 1923 and lived nearly her whole life in the Caldwells, graduating from Caldwell High School in 1941. During World War II, she honorably served in the US Navy as a Pharmacist’s Mate (PhM 3/C). She was a devoted homemaker who cherished the time spent with her family. She was also very involved at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Essex Fells, NJ. and was an active supporter of local and global ministries.

“Pre-deceased by her mother, Luise Bauer Eberhardt; father and step-mother, George Eberhardt Sr. and Isabelle Eberhardt; dear husband, George Clarence Thyren; brother, George Eberhardt Jr.; step-sister, Ruth Calabrese; daughter in-law, Marsha Thyren.

“Surviving are her six beloved children, Dr. Paul G. Thyren of Waldo, WI; David C. Thyren (Barbara) of Boscobel, WI; Polly Ottens (Dirk) of Kempton, PA; Robin Ran (Wolfgang) of Elmwood Park, NJ; Cindy Stone (William) of Caldwell, NJ; and Beth Scherlacher (Andrew) of Greensboro, NC; 15 loving grandchildren; 43 dear great-grandchildren.

“In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Master’s Mission of Robbinsville, NC (mastersmission.org) or Northern Frontier Camp (northernfrontier.org) would be appreciated.”
