Caldwells Obituary: Robert Ellis, WWII Vet and West Caldwell Postal Carrier

The West Caldwell native lived in Verona, Hanover and Caldwell before settling in Roseland.

West Caldwell native Robert Ellis passed away on Dec. 26.

He was 97-years-old.

“Robert E. Ellis, 97 of Roseland, died on December 26, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family.

“Born and raised in West Caldwell, he lived in Verona, Hanover and Caldwell before settling in Roseland over 50 years ago. During World War II, he proudly served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged. After the war, he was a milkman for 30 years for Ideal Farms in Paterson. He then went on to work as a postal carrier for West Caldwell Post Office. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 185 and member of VFW Post 2619. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening. He also loved antiquing, woodworking and was a New York Yankees fan.

“He is pre-deceased by his wife, Anna M. Ellis, his 13 siblings and son in-law, Thomas Kugel.

“Surviving are his beloved children, June Gaffey, Carole Kugel and Robert Ellis and his wife Susan; devoted grandchildren, Kathleen Shelley and her husband Dan, Eileen Cabe and her husband Scott, Tom Kugel, Mark Kugel, Ryan Ellis and his wife Brittney and Sean Ellis; cherished great-grandchildren, Danny, Caitlin, Anna and Dillon and one special great-grandchild on the way.
