Crane’s Mill Residents Create Bags for “Month of the Military Child"

The West Caldwell retirement community has a rich tradition of volunteering and serving others.

Residents and staff partnered with the American Red Cross to create 500 care packages for children of military personnel. The special packages honor the “Month of the Military Child,” which takes place in April.

Each year, the Joint-Base holds a massive expo open to all active duty and their families, where children get to enjoy static displays of several military units. They can go into planes, climb in ambulances and fire trucks, see military dogs in training, and more.

“Last year, more than 1,800 children were in attendance,” shared Joshua Gribbin, life enrichment coordinator for Crane’s Mill. “We thought these bags would be a great gift for the kids, and the residents were so happy to donate their time and effort.”

The tradition of service to others is etched deeply in the communities history, as Crane’s Mill is part of Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey, a non-profit organization that, in the spirit of Lutheranism, is committed to serving those in need.
