La Bella Musica (The Beautiful Music) is a sextet of Caldwell residents who came together to celebrate their love of classic Italian music and to keep tradition alive, the library said.

The group is headed up by Franco Digangi, a well-known local barber and native of Italy, on first mandolin. Self-taught, Franco plays Neapolitan style and has been an accomplished musician for over 50 years.

Mandolinists Mark Sample and Beverly Shimade contribute harmonies. Gail Sample adds flute. Ben Larkey is the acoustic guitarist and Ed Hanrahan rounds out the sextet on electric
bass guitar.

La Bella Musica specializes in renditions of Italian compositions like O Sole Mio , Maria, Mari and Finiculi, Fincula. The group also plays polkas, mazurkas and waltzes, popular classics brought over to the U.S. by Italian immigrants at the turn of the century. In addition, the sextet includes tunes that are more modern, such as That's Amore, Arriverderci, Roma, and music from The Godfather.

The West Caldwell Public Library is located at 30 Clinton Road. "The West Caldwell Public Library nurtures and builds community by providing access to materials that foster life-long learning, a love of reading, and a spirit of exploration for all."
