Sorry North Jersey, This Mayor Did Not Just Offer You A Massage

Ay, there's the rub: it was a typo in a memo about a dearth of dumpsters.

A "massage" message sent to residents in Fairfield, N.J. provided comic relief Monday, but it turned out to be about a dearth of Dumpsters, not self-care.

NORTH JERSEY — No, Mayor Galese is not going to give you a massage. He just wanted to tell you about a dearth of dumpsters.

The confusion around that part of New Jersey stems from a notice to Fairfield residents sent out at 6:56 p.m. on Monday that read, "Alert: Massage from Mayor Galese."

"My so called 'friends' have been cracking wise since it came out," said Fairfield Mayor William "Bill" Galese.

"I have decided to turn the tables and ask them what time they want their appointment."

Galese, who just took office last month, added, "I guess I’ve learned something. I’m going to have to proofread everything with my name on it."

Ay, there's the rub.

In truth, the massage was in fact a message, about a dumpster fire of a situation:

"The Township of Fairfield recycling center will remain closed due to a lack of available Dumpsters. We ask you not to leave recycling until replacement containers can be secured. You will receive reverse 911 call when the center re-opens. Thank you for your patience."

The town did follow up at 7:13 with a new note, this time headlined: "Advisory: Message from Mayor Galese."

Many towns in New Jersey allow residents to sign up for alert messages that range from community announcements to urgent news. Some of the alerts from Fairfield about road closures affect nearby towns as well.
