Ex-Caldwell Police Chief Passes Away: John Scapicchio

A retired Caldwell chief of police, John G. Scapicchio, has passed away.

CALDWELL, NJ — A former Caldwell chief of police, John G. Scapicchio, died earlier this month. According to his obituary, Scapicchio was 65 when he passed away on Jan. 11.

The following obituary comes via the Codey & Jones Funeral Home:

“John G. Scapicchio passed away on January 11, 2018 at the age of 65. He served the Borough of Caldwell Police Department for 27 years and retired as Chief of Police in 2000. Upon his retirement he and his wife moved to Florida. John was part of the Rusty Bellies family for 6 years while he managed the restaurant. The weather suited him well as he was an avid bike rider.

“He is predeceased by his son, Vincent James Scapicchio. He is survived by his devoted wife Virginia (née Dressel), loving daughters Lindy (Vince) Serenta and Lara Scapicchio, granddaughter Leah Serenta, his parents John and Angelina Scapicchio, sister Kathleen Sunbury (Robert) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

“Memorial visitation will be on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 3 to 6:45 p.m., followed by a blessing at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Avenue in Caldwell.
