Thunderstorm Watch Continues In Essex County

The flood warning specifically mentions Caldwell and Bloomfield, while a thunderstorm watch for the county continues through the night.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A flash flood warning — meaning the threat of flooding is imminent — was issued Monday afternoon for northern Essex County by the National Weather Service, and more thunderstorms and flooding were expected until 10 p.m. this evening.

The NWS specifically mentioned a series of Bergen and Essex county towns in its flood warning statement, including Caldwell and Bloomfield. They said some water rescues had already occurred.

The NWS also said all Essex County towns were in the path of severe thunderstorms. A watch extended until 10 p.m. However, Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be sunny with highs in the 90s.

In North Jersey, sudden floods in the last two years have trapped people and caused the loss of life.

Officials advise residents not to try to drive through floodwaters.

"Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...Paterson, Passaic, Wayne, Bloomfield, Hackensack, Bergenfield,Paramus, Ridgewood, Lyndhurst, Rutherford, Secaucus, Ramsey, Ridgefield, Caldwell, Kearny, Englewood, Hawthorne, Oradell, Norwood and Teterboro," the NWS said about the flood warning, which ends at 4:30.
