Free Tree Seedlings In The Caldwells: Here’s How To Get Yours

New Jersey officials have thousands of free tree seedlings ready for planting in 2017. Here's where to get yours in the Caldwells.

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — About 112,500 free tree seedlings will soon be available to New Jersey residents in 128 towns – including the Caldwells – as part of an ongoing partnership between the New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign, State Forest Service and the non-profit Arbor Day Foundation.

According to a NJ Department of Environmental Protection news release, the North Caldwell tree seedling giveaway will take place at 10:30 a.m. on April 22 at the Borough of North Caldwell Pool Parking Lot. Residents are eligible to receive up to five free seedlings. Proof of residency in the community where seedlings are distributed is not required.

"The seedlings, which are about two to three feet high when distributed, should be planted promptly to ensure they take root and thrive," State Forester John Sacco said. "Residents should be mindful of their planting site's surroundings by avoiding overhead utility lines and proximity to structures in case of storms, and considering the size of the tree when fully grown."
