Man Charged In Connection With Car Burglary In The Caldwells

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — Police in West Caldwell charged a man with four offenses after a caller said someone was trespassing on his property last Wednesday, police said.

Police said that they received a call about someone trespassing on May 17, 2023, at approximately 2:10 a.m. Sergeant Orr, Corporal Foster, Patrolman Eavey, and Patrolman Marta responded to a residence on Hillcrest Road.

A man told them that he had seen someone approach his vehicle in the driveway. The resident then tapped on his window, which caused the trespasser to flee, police said.

Soon, Officer Conor Cunningham from the Caldwell Police Department located a person on Espy Road matching the description of the suspect.

"Further investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Romario Ross, was positively identified as the suspect involved in this case," West Caldwell police said. "Ross was also found to be the suspect in a separate motor vehicle burglary on Hillcrest Road."

Police charged Ross with two counts of burglary (third degree), two counts of criminal trespass (fourth degree), criminal attempt (third degree), and receiving stolen property (third degree).

The police said, "Residents are reminded to keep their car doors locked, remove any valuable items from their vehicles, and always report any suspicious activity."
