Mount St. Dominic Academy Starts Out The Season Strong

The future is looking bright for Mount Soccer as they open the season 3-0.

September is proving to be a great month so far for Mount St. Dominic athletic teams. All teams trained hard this summer and their work is paying off. Poised with winning records this season, Mount Soccer is (3-0), Mount Volleyball is (3-2), Mount Tennis is (3-0), and Mount Field Hockey is (2-1).


Mount Soccer (3-0)


In a shutout game by Goalie Frankie Mansfield ’24, who had 2 saves, on Monday, Sept. 11, Mount St. Dominic Soccer beat Caldwell, 5-0. Gianna Camporeale ’26, scored 3 goals, and Sophia Giordano ‘27, had 2 goals. In addition, Mary Hladik ’25 made 2 assists.

Mount Soccer continued its dominance on the field, with another shutout game, on Wednesday, Sept. 13, where The Mount beat Nutley, 7-0, and Goalie Frankie Mansfield ’24, made 3 saves. Lena Tusche ’26, scored 2 goals, and had 1 assist; Gianna Camporeale ’26, had 2 goals, and 1 assist; Reina Casas ’27, added 1 goal, and 1 assist; ElizaHaghighi ’24, scored 1 goal, and had 2 assists; and Mary Hladik ‘25, who also scored 1 goal.


Keeping up their winning streak, on Friday, Sept. 15, Mount notched another shutout, this time against Bloomfield, winning, 6-0. The game was led by Lena Tusche ’26, with 3 goals; Gianna Camporeale ’26, who had 2 goals, and 1 assist; and Sophia Giordano ‘27, who scored 1 goal.
Mount Soccer is scheduled to play at Newark Academy (9/19), at Columbia (9/21), and at Newark East Side (9/23).

Here is how other Mount teams fared last week:


Mount Volleyball (3-2)


Mount Volleyball started out the season strong, with a 2-0, win over MKA (25-18 and 25-23), on Monday, Sept. 11. The win was led by Izzy Rivera ’24, who had 10 assists and 4 digs; Ariana Rivera ’26, with 6 digs and 5 kills; and MJ Finn ’26, who made 3 kills and 2 blocks.


Continuing their winning streak, The Mount had a, 2-1, win over Newark Academy, on Wednesday, Sept. 13 (16-25, 25-22, 25-22). With 11 assists and 7 digs, Izzy Rivera ’24 played a great game, as did Ariana Rivera ’26, who had 7 digs, 5 kills, and 1 block; and Erin Araneta ’24, with 3 kills, 4 digs, and 2 assists.


The Mount had its first Volleyball upset on Thursday, Sept. 14, against Millburn, losing, 2-1 (25-13, 20-25, 21-25).


Upcoming this week: vs Caldwell (9/19), at Verona (9/21), and a Livingston Tournament (9/23).

Mount Tennis (3-0)


Mount Tennis went on to enjoy a clean sweep over Verona, beating them with a score of, 5-0, on Thursday, Sept. 14. The team was led by wins from singles players Rebecca Hess ’24, Madison Cronin ’26, and Michelle Bijak ’27; and doubles players Rosa Dibaj ’25 / Jayden DeSilva ’25, and Nick Higgins ’25 / Gabby Liloia ’25.


Earning another clean sweep, on Friday, Sept. 15, Mount Tennis defeated Caldwell, 5-0. The team played well led by wins from singles players Rebecca Hess ’24, Madison Cronin ’26, and Michelle Bijak ’27; and doubles players Rosa Dibaj ’25 / Jayden DeSilva ’25, and Nick Higgins ’25 / Gabby Liloia ’25.


Upcoming this week: vs West Essex (9/18), ECT Tournament (9/19), at Millburn (9/20), and vs Irvington (9/22).


Mount Field Hockey (2-1)


The Mount Field Hockey team also had a great week, beating Union, 5-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Goalie Finola Giblin ’26, had her first shutout game of the season with 4 saves. Instrumental in the win were Sara Tortoriello ’24, who made 2 goals, and had 1 assist; Stella Luna ’26, who had 2 goals, and 1 assist; and Jillian Diglio ‘27, whoscored 1 goal.


In their first defeat of the season, The Mount St. Dominic Field Hockey team lost to Livingston, 0-6, on Thursday, Sept. 14.


Taking the loss in stride, Mount Field Hockey made a comeback on Saturday, Sept. 16, with a well-earned, 2-1, win over Koinonia. The team was led by Elizabeth Forsatz ’24, with 1 goal, Ava Capalbo ’27, who also scored 1 goal, and Sara Tortoriello, who had 2 assists.
