Mount St. Dominic Tennis Senior Rebecca Hess Swings Into Oct. Strong

As the first month of school comes to a close, Mount Senior Rebecca Hess stays red hot on the tennis court.

As the first month of school comes to a close, Mount Senior Rebecca Hess stays red hot on the tennis court. Rebecca is currently undefeated (7-0) as the 1st Singles for the Mount St. Dominic Tennis team; with impressive wins over Newark Academy and Millburn’s aces. She has advanced into the Semifinals of the Essex County Singles Tournament with her eyes set on the “Best Girls Tennis Player in the County.”

Mount Varsity Tennis (5-2) had a roller coaster week. They defeated Glen Ridge in the 1st Round of the Essex County Tournament, 4-1, on Sept. 19, but then fell in the quarter final round to Newark Academy, 1-4. On Sept. 20, the Lions lost to Millburn, 1-4. They came back strong on Sept, 22 to sweep Irvington High School, 0-5, with all, 6-0, matches.

The team is scheduled to play Livingston at North Caldwell Rec on Wednesday, Sept. 27, and West Orange on Friday, Sept. 29.

Here is how the other Mount teams fared last week:

Soccer (5-0)

Mount Soccer finished the week well. On Sept. 19, Gianna Camporeale ‘26 notched her 8th goal of the year when she scored the game winner in overtime vs Newark Academy, where Mount came out on top, 1-0. Goalie Frankie Mansfield ‘24 notched her 4th shutout of the year with one save in this contest. Varsity Soccer then went on to defeat Columbia High School, 2-1, on Sept. 21, where Lena Tusche ‘26 scored 2 goals, and Gianna Comporeale ‘26 added 2 assists.

They next play on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Cedar Grove, and at James Caldwell on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Volleyball (4-3)

Varsity Volleyball also had a strong week, with Izzy Rivera '24 achieving a big milestone in High School Volleyball with – her 1,000th career assist. She did this in a 2-0 victory over Caldwell High School on Sept. 19. The Lions then lost to Verona, 0-2, on Sept. 21. At the Livingston High School Invitational on Sept. 23, the team finished 5th out of 16 teams, but then lost in the playoff round of 8.

They next play home vs Livingston High School on Sept. 26; then at Montclair Kimberley Academy on Thursday, Sept 28; at Newark Academy on Friday, Sept. 29; and at the James Caldwell Quad on Saturday, Sept. 30 where they will face Verona, Caldwell and West Essex.

Field Hockey (2-3-2)

MSDA Field Hockey took a few hits during the week of Sept. 18. They lost to Cranford, 1-0, on Sept. 18; and then lost to Gov Livingston, 0-5, on Sept. 20. However, in a well-played game, they tied Columbia, 0-0, on Sept. 21. They followed that up with another tie vs St. Elizabeth, 1-1, with a goal by Elizabeth Forsatz ‘24.

The team next plays at Livingston on Friday, Sept. 29.

Cross Country

The Mount Cross Country Varsity team placed nicely this week. At the Sept. 19th meet, Lily Nachbaur '25 placed 2nd, and Cassidy Sontz '24 placed 10th overall. The team then competed at the Sept. 21st Osprey Invitational at Stockton University where Lily Nachbaur ‘25 was the top Mount finisher, taking 42nd place out of 170 runners. She now has the 5th fastest time in the conference this season. In addition, Isabella Dressler ‘25 now has the 9th fastest time in the conference.

Next, Cross Country has a SEC Dual Meet meet on Wednesday, Sept. 27 against Livingston at Branch Brook Park.
