NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — A 9-year-old in Essex County might have a bright future as an emergency responder after coming to the aid of a family member during a medical emergency.

On Nov. 26 – two days before Thanksgiving – Grace Mazza was home alone with her great aunt when a life-threatening-emergency reared its head, according to police in North Caldwell.

Recognizing that her aunt needed help, Mazza rushed to a neighbor’s house and got them to call 9-1-1. Emergency responders from the North Caldwell Police Department and the West Essex First Aid Squad soon showed up and tended to the child’s aunt, ultimately saving her life, authorities said.
