Former Caldwell Councilman, Seton Hall Adjunct Law Professor Dies At 80

A former councilman in Caldwell, who was a Seton Hall Law School adjunct professor and an Army veteran, passed away on Friday.

CALDWELL, NJ — Attorney and former Caldwell Councilman Richard "Dick" Brennan passed away on Friday, the township announced Tuesday. Services will be held later this week.

Brennan, who was 80, served on the Caldwell Council from 1971-1973, and also had been chairman of the Zoning Board.

He also was an adjunct professor at Seton Hall Law School for more than 20 years.

Brennan was a father of four daughters, and handed each one her diploma when each graduated from Seton Hall University.

He was born in 1941 in Orange, and graduated from Seton Hall Preparatory School at just 16. He received his undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University in 1962. After that, he served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg and San Antonio.

During his service, he received a scholarship to Seton Hall Law School, and graduated first in his class in 1967.

From 1974-1976 he was Chairman of The Bridge in West Caldwell, a nonprofit community-based organization.

He married his wife Pam in 1967.

Services Thursday And Friday

Services will be held this Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave., Roseland, NJ, www.shookfarmer.com. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 25th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Caldwell, with interment to follow at
Prospect Hill Cemetery in Caldwell.
