ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The forecast for the Essex County area calls for an accumulation of sleet and snow Thursday overnight into Friday morning.

For the area around the airport in Caldwell, the prediction calls for 1-3 inches overnight, and possibly a tenth of an inch of ice on Friday.

A hazardous weather outlook for Essex County says: "A wintry mix of snow and sleet is expected to develop Thursday night into early Friday morning. The precipitation then changes to freezing rain and rain after day break Friday morning. Impacts to the Friday morning commute are possible, especially away from the immediate coast where the wintry mix hangs on longest before a changeover to plain rain."

Thursday Night: Snow before 3 a.m., then snow and sleet. Low around 29. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. East wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday: Rain, freezing rain, and sleet before 11 a.m., then rain between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., then a slight chance of rain and snow after 4 p.m. High near 38. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. East wind 7 to 11 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New ice accumulation of around a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.
