Undefeated Mount Soccer 13-0 Is Having An Extraordinary Season

The Lions are set to outclass West Orange High School in the Essex County Semi Finals this Wednesday.

It has been an exciting season for 13-0 Mount Soccer. Led by Lena Tusche ‘26, with 11 goals and 12 assists, who was recently named by NJ.com as a midseason “Sophomore Sensation,” and Gianna Camporeale ‘26, with 18 goals and 5 assists, the team is on fire. The Lions are set to outclass West Orange High School in the Essex County Semi Finals this Wednesday.

Soccer (13-0)

Mount Soccer is still making waves! The 13-0 undefeated team beat Glen Ridge 7-1 on Tuesday, October 10. Caitlin Caufield ‘24 and Eliza Haghighi ‘24 each put two goals in net and Reina Casas ‘27, Mary Hladik ‘25, and Gianna Camporeale ‘26 each scored one goal apiece. In addition, Sophia Giordano ‘27, Maddie Natale ‘25, Eliza Haghighi ‘24, and Mary Hladik each had an assist, while Lena Tusche ‘26 had two assists. The Lions went on to defeat Newark Academy 4-0, for their 9th shutout for the season, on Thursday, Oct. 12, where Sophia Giordano’s ‘27 first-half hat trick led 6th-seeded Mount St. Dominic over 11th-seeded Newark Academy in the first round of the Essex County Tournament in Caldwell. Lena Tusche ‘26 scored the other goal. Caitlin Caufield ‘24 had two assists, while Mary Hladik ‘25 and Gianna Camporeale ‘26 each had one. After an exciting game on Saturday, Oct. 14, the Lions beat 3rd-seeded Montclair 5-1 to advance to the Essex County Semifinals. Gianna Camporeale ‘26 notched four goals, and Lena Tusche ‘26 added another one. Frankie Mansfield ‘24, Kaitlyn Ferris ‘24, Eliza Haghigh ‘24i, and Lena Tusche ‘26 each had an assist. In addition, goalie Frankie Mansfield ‘24 made eight saves on goal, to bring the team to an undefeated 13-0 season.

The undefeated Lions next face Paramus Catholic High School on Monday, Oct. 16, for their “Senior Day.” They then play in the Essex County Semifinals against the two seed, West Orange on Wednesday, Oct. 18, and on Thursday, Oct. 19, they will face East Side High School.

Tennis (8-6)

Varsity Tennis lost to Pingry, the #1 team in the state, in the Quarterfinal Round of the State Tournament on Tuesday, October 10; however, they came back fierce on Wednesday, Oct. 11th, to defeat West Orange High School 5-0, and became the Liberty Division Champions. The Lions then lost to Montclair 2-3 on Friday, Oct. 13. In addition, after a spectacular run, Rebecca Hess '24 lost in a third set tie-breaker in the Quarterfinal round of NJSIAA Individual State Tournament, on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Lions next play against Montclair Kimberley Academy on Monday, Oct. 16, where Rebecca Hess ‘24 will compete in the Essex County Singles Championship. They finish the season on Tuesday, Oct. 17, where they take on West Essex.

Volleyball (8-13)

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, Varsity Volleyball played three matches at West Essex Dig Pink, where they defeated Passaic 2-0, but then lost 0-2 to both West Essex and Nutley 0-2. They then lost in the Quarterfinal Round Play of the Prep Tournament to #1 seed Oak Knoll 1-2, on Thursday, Oct. 12. However, they bounced back to defeat #11 seed Nutley 2-0 in the 1st Round of the Essex County Tournament to advance to the Quarterfinal Round.

They will be playing in the Essex County Tournament Quarterfinal against #3 seed Millburn on Tuesday, Oct. 17, and against Columbia High School on Friday, Oct. 20.

Field Hockey (2-9-3)

Mount Field Hockey lost to Newark Academy 0-1 in the first Round of the Essex County Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 10. They then tied Koinonia 2-2 on Saturday, Oct. 14. Ava Capalbo ‘27 and Elizabeth Forsatz ‘24 each scored a goal for the Mount, while Stella Luna ‘26 had both assists.

The team will face Watchung Hills High School on Wednesday, Oct. 18, and Millburn High School on Friday, Oct. 20.

Cross Country

The Mount's Esme Lee ‘26 and Rebecca Volltrauer ‘26 were the Mount’s top finishers in the Super Essex Conference Championship, which took place on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

The Lions will participate in the Essex County Championships on Friday, Oct. 20.
