West Caldwell Student Pays Tribute To Veteran Family Members

This West Caldwell girl plays guitar, enjoys fashion design and excels in archery. She's also proud of her veteran family members.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — She does the morning announcements at school. She plays guitar, enjoys fashion design and excels in archery.

She’s also proud of her great-grandfather, a U.S. military veteran.

Sophie Hacker, a fifth-grade student at Wilson Elementary School in West Caldwell, recently got a chance to pay tribute to her great-grandfather as a “Poppy Girl” during the township’s annual Memorial Day Parade, who defended Britain in the Home Guard during World War II.

Hacker also took the chance to honor her great-uncle, Frank, who served in England’s Royal Air Force, according to a news release from American Legion James Caldwell Post #185.
