Maddie Gering, a sophomore at West Essex High School, ran her first half marathon Sunday.
Maddie has only been running for approximately 6 to 8 months, according to her father Howard Gering.
She completed the 13-mile Long Branch Half Marathon in 1:59:55. Out of 4,177 total runners, she came in 1,397. Out of all females, Maddie came in 608 out of 2,573. Among girls ages 14 to 16, she came in 7 of 18.

“This is a great achievement for a 16-year-old-girl and we are very proud,” said Howard.
