Asahda’s Soulfood Celebrates Ribbon Cutting In Chatham Saturday

CHATHAM, NJ — Asahda’s Soulfood, one of several new eateries that made its way into Chatham Borough with the challenges of COVID-19 and the pandemic exiting, is hosting its grand opening and ribbon cutting on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Mayor Thaddeus J. Kobylarz named the establishment on 262 Main Street, where Drip Coffee and Cafe Beethoven had previously been - and describes itself as having “food to feed your soul" - as one of the renaissance restaurants in the borough, sustaining through the difficulties of COVID-19.

Fleur De Sel, Mexican Spice, Namkeen Hot Chicken, Scoops The Chatham Creamery and Sonny’s Indian Kitchen were others he named in March.

“Each of these eateries have played a huge part in the creation of a more flourishing downtown scene,” Kobylarz said. “Not just the downtown area — it's now a downtown scene, and that is progress."

Asahda’s proud owner Karima Singleton has been excitedly posting about her celebration on Saturday to social media followers, asking them to mark their calendars for the ribbon cutting.

Singleton, who also has a vibrant Instagram presence, advertises gift certificates, catering and private venue space at the restaurant.

She shows her daily specials on her Facebook and Instagram Pages, with comforting selections and mouthwatering photos like fried chicken, turkey wings, macaroni and cheese, sweet corn, baked chicken, Teriyaki maple-glazed salmon, meatloaf, collard greens, candied yams, red beans and rice, okra, mashed potatoes, pepper steak with onions and peppers, jerk chicken and more on her menu.

The restaurant is open Tuesday through Friday 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m.
