"The Green Village Fire Department's historical function is as the center of the community, a place where neighbors meet, discuss, laugh, play, relax and work for the common good," officials said.

The fire department hosts various community events throughout the year, including a visit from Santa and a Christmas tree lighting.

Families can observe Santa arriving by fire truck to light the tree at the Green Village Fire House. Santa will enter the firehouse after lighting the tree to hear the children's holiday wishes. The Green Village Fire Department's Auxiliary also provides complimentary drinks and cookies.

This year, Santa's visit is planned for Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. The event is free for the public.
