Ditch Unused, Expired Medicine At Chatham Borough Drug Take-Back Event

CHATHAM, NJ — Do you need to dispose of unwanted, unnecessary, or expired medication? This weekend, the Chatham Borough Police Department will take part in the DEA's National Takeback initiative.

Members of the Chatham Borough Police Department will be on hand at 471 Main Street on Oct. 29, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of prescription medications.

The DEA and the US Department of Justice coordinate Operation Take Back twice a year. Throughout the country on Take Back Days, law enforcement at the state, county, and local levels operate prescription-drug drop-off locations.

Participants can dispose of their medication in its original container or place it directly in the disposal box.

The DEA will only collect vape pens and other e-cigarettes from individual consumers after the batteries have been removed. If the battery cannot be removed, consumers can check with large electronic chain stores to see if they will accept the devices for proper disposal.

No needles will be accepted, police said.

If you cannot make it Saturday but wish to dispose of medication, Chatham Township police have medicine drop boxes available 24 hours a day, seven days a week inside police headquarters, located at 401 Southern Boulevard.
