The Department of Public Works spearheaded the renovations, which now include heating, ensuring that the facilities are accessible and comfortable for users throughout the winter months.

"We're thrilled to showcase the improvements made to Shunpike Field's facilities and are confident that these upgrades will significantly enhance the visitor experience, especially during winter," said Mayor Ashley Felice. "We look forward to seeing the community come together for this festive occasion and celebrate the spirit of Chatham Township."

Last year, under Resolution 2022-125, the Chatham Township Committee also authorized the purchase of automated doors for the restrooms at both Shunpike and Nash Field.

Because of the improvements, every resident now has timed access to the existing restrooms, thanks to computerized controls. According to officials, this update assures that the restrooms are secure when the parks close for the evening.

The new door controls were also intended to reduce the workload of highly valued volunteer coaches. During sporting events, automation eliminates the distraction of unlocking and locking restroom doors.

Other access upgrades included improvements to the trail that connects Shunpike Field and the first overflow parking lot. The path was previously unpaved and frequently muddy, with ponded water after any rain event.

"The Family Fun Day at Shunpike Field is more than just an event; it's a testament to Chatham Township's commitment to community engagement and continuous improvement," township officials said.

The Fall Fun Day event is every resident's chance to meet other community members, participate in family-friendly activities, and see the newly refurbished facilities for themselves.
