CHATHAM, NJ — The first freeze of the season is anticipated to hit the Chatham area overnight into the morning hours on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service forecasts a freeze warning for Chatham kicking in after midnight and winding down in the morning at about 9 a.m., with temperatures plunging overnight to just above the freezing mark at 33 degrees.

Patchy frost is anticipated to be on the ground after 5 a.m. on Wednesday, with the frost remaining until about 9 a.m., as the sun breaks, with a high of 52 during the day on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to hover again near the freezing mark at 34 degrees on Wednesday night, with the patchy frost coming back after 3 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service reports.

On Thursday, again the frost is expected to stick around before departing around 9 a.m., with a high of 51 degrees for the day and low at about 36 degrees overnight.

As the weekend returns, the cool weather pattern is anticipated to continue with sunny skies and a high of 51 for Friday, with the dip back to 33 degrees overnight into Saturday. However, for the weekend, the daytime temperatures will likely rise each day to the mid-50s, before the following Monday when they’re supposed to rise to 57 degrees for a daytime high.
