Going to the Mall with The Mask King of New Jersey

It makes sense for stores to still ask all their customers to mask up.

It's great to see more and more people getting out and shopping these days as vaccination rates in New Jersey, as of this writing, are over 52% of the state's population. We are well on the way to herd immunity. The Mask King of New Jersey has been doing his part too, getting vaccinated, and of course shopping while masked. He recently visited The Mall At Short Hills, NJ to try to make his dream about a new pair of Adidas sneakers come true at Foot Locker. It didn't go as planned.

Despite being disappointed at Foot Locker, the Mask King is pleased to see that most shoppers are still masking up when in the mall or inside stores around the state. "Not everyone in my family is fully vaccinated yet, so even though I am, I want to play it safe", he said. That's a good reason to keep masking up when in public places with lots of people around.

Recently the Today Show featured, "Should you wear a mask indoors? 7 vaccinated epidemiologists share what they're doing", which highlighted some of the other reasons to continue masking in public. Most shoppers in New Jersey are keeping their masks on, even in stores that are not specifically asking all of their customers to do so.

The reality is that being vaccinated doesn't mean that you can't get the virus. It means that you are far less likely to have any symptoms or to spread the virus to others. Also, with the spread of new, more infectious variants among the unvaccinated population in New Jersey, it's not surprising that many vaccinated people here continue to mask up in public.

Since the New Jersey mask mandate ended on Friday, May 28th. many stores are still asking people to continue to wear masks when shopping.

Wear Masks Sign
Many stores still ask customers to mask up.
After all, these stores have no way to know who is really vaccinated and who isn't, and most businesses don't what to potentially incur any liability for someone claiming they contracted COVID from visiting their store.

Here's what the Mask King of New Jersey said about how long he intends to continue wearing his masks when shopping in public, "I’m just looking at the number of daily positive tests in New Jersey to see if they drop into double digits, and I'm keeping an eye on variants that are showing up here."

The Mask King of New Jersey was wearing the AIR super-mask from MicroClimate. It offers powered protection via 4 HEPA 12 filters and twin dual-speed fans. It is made in America and is now available on Amazon too.
