How Many Inches Of Snow Will Chatham Get, And When?

There's about a 90 percent chance that Chatham could see up to 9 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

CHATHAM, NJ —Sunny skies are expected to return on Sunday, but not before snow blankets the Chatham area on Saturday.

The National Weather Service forecasts a Winter Storm Warning for Chatham that began Friday night at 7 p.m. and is expected to last through Saturday at 7 p.m. The storm could bring up to 9 inches of snow to Chatham and wind gusts as high as 35 mph. Wind chills may drop as low as -4 degrees, according to the forecast.

The snow may taper off by Saturday morning or early Saturday afternoon. At times, the rate could be about an inch an hour, making driving hazardous, the National Weather Service predicts.

Chatham could be in for a lot of snow, but predictions vary countywide, according to Jeffrey S. Paul, director of Morris County’s Office of Emergency Management.

“We expect periods of moderate to heavy snowfall which will taper off Saturday evening," Paul wrote in an email statement to Patch. “Snowfall amounts across Morris County range from 4-6 inches with some models showing 7-11 inches over eastern areas, and 2-4 inches with some models showing 4-8 inches over western areas. Keep in mind, we are still on the line between the heaviest snow and lighter amounts.”

For anyone who needs to travel, they should carry food, water and an extra flashlight, the National Weather Service suggested.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 26. Wind chill values as low as -3. Northwest wind around 10 mph.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 11. Calm wind.
