Lifelong Chatham Twp. Woman, Fire Dept. Member Dies at 98

Gertrude Zander loved hosting family and friends on her sun porch.

From great conversation to tasty chocolate chip cookies, Gertrude Zander was one of a kind.

The lifelong Green Village woman died recently at the age of 98.

Zander grew up in the Hickory Tree section of Chatham Township, graduating Chatham High School in 1936. She worked at Prudential in Newark following high schools.

In 1951, she and her husband, Christopher, built a home in the Green Village section of town, where she lived the rest of her life.

Zander was a member of the Green Village Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary.

She is predeceased by her husband, two brothers, and four sisters. She is survived by one daughter and two grandsons.
