Longtime Chatham Resident Passes Away

​Gloria Ellis Tompson lived in Chatham for 20 years.

CHATHAM, NJ— Gloria Ellis Tompson entered into eternal rest on May 16, 2017, at La Vida Llena Retirement Community in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gloria was born on March 25, 1928, and grew up in East Orange, New Jersey, the daughter of Moury and Eleanor Ellis. She married Schuyler W. Tompson in 1951, and was happily married for 45 years before he passed away in 1996 in Albuquerque.

Gloria was a longtime medical counselor at Overlook Hospital in New Jersey and Presbyterian Hospital in New Mexico where they moved in 1984 after spending 20 years in Chatham, New Jersey. Gloria was a dear friend of Bill W. and it made her life richer.

Gloria was an ardent fan of the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team and all of the athletic activities of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Mark of Birmingham, Alabama, and Steven and daughter in law Susan, of Morristown, New Jersey as well as four grandchildren, Sarah, Jeffrey, Christopher and Steven. Gloria will be laid to rest at Rosedale Cemetery in Montclair, New Jersey. Services will be held in Albuquerque later next month.
