Mask King of New Jersey Unboxes the MicroClimate Air "Super Mask"

The AIR super mask from Microclimate is designed for air transit and other high-density situations. However, as we look at the next few months with life struggling to get back to normal., it may have other applications as well. I ordered mine back in December and received it in late February. The company has ramped up production and they are now reporting that their lead time is down to just 3 days.

Even though I'm fully vaccinated, I still want to protect others in my family who have not yet been vaccinated. Also, the evolution of the coronavirus and its emerging new variants is very concerning. Now that I have this mask I am starting to explore where and when I will use it in my day-to-day life, and this week I made an unboxing video of the AIR which you can view here:

I recently had to have some blood drawn for medical tests at a local lab, so I decided to wear it there. The lab is in a multistory medical building. The last time I was there I wore an N95 mask and goggles. This time I wore the MicroClimate Air.

The first thing I noticed is that I could breathe really easily. There was no stale air and no breathing resistance at all. Also, people could see my whole face! That's something I have not experienced in public in a long time. I actually felt a little bit like an astronaut when I got on an elevator for the first time in over a year.

The MicroClimate AIR looks well-designed and it works well. There is some noise from the 2 dual-speed fans that pull fresh air into the AIR through 4 HEPA 11 filters which may make it a challenge to hear others in certain situations. However, if you need to speak with someone, the company recommends using Apple AirPods with LiveListen feature. This enables a link between the phones microphone and earbuds. A similar feature is also available through Sound Amplifier on Android.

This "super mask" may have a number of applications for businesses as well, especially for businesses that require workers to be close to customers. I would feel comfortable getting a haircut from someone wearing the Air, and I've been doing my own haircuts for the past year.
