Memorial Service Set For Late Chatham Police Officer

CHATHAM, NJ — A memorial service is set to honor a long-time member of the Chatham Borough Police Department who died this past weekend.

Robert “Bobby” Sweetin, a 35-year member of the department, died on Sept. 3. There will be a public viewing at Bradley Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham Borough, on Friday, Sept. 8, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Anyone who wants to pay their respects is invited to come, the Chatham Borough Police Department said.

The Chatham Borough Fire Department stated that they will pay their respects as a group on Friday at 6 p.m.

The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. the following day at St. Patrick's Church, 41 Oliver Street, Chatham Borough. "A repast will follow at George Sweetin's house on Cornell," the Chatham Borough Fire Department said.

In lieu of flowers, his family is asking for donations to be made to The Gift of Life Howie’s House, 401 Callowhill Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123.

"Bobby was a dedicated and honorable member of our police department for over 35 years and truly exemplified our core values. We will forever honor Bobby's memory," Chatham police said in a statement announcing his death. "He left a legacy of compassion and empathy which he exhibited to all he encountered. Let us come together to support one another during this difficult time and pay our respects to a true local hero who dedicated his life to serving and protecting our country and our community."
