Nor'easter Leaves Close To 4 Inches Of Rain In Chatham

CHATHAM, NJ — On par with the initial predictions of the storm, the Nor’easter that drenched the Chatham area on Monday night and throughout Tuesday dropped close to four inches of rainfall, leaving the Passaic River in a “Flood Warning” state on Wednesday morning.

Showers could possibly return on Friday, according to the National Weather Service, with up to two more inches of rainfall.

The National Weather Service’s Advance Hydrologic Prediction Service showed the Passaic River by Chatham on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. at 5.8 feet, with the river's "flood stage set at 6 feet. This compares to earlier in the day when at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday it measured at 5.63 feet.

New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection’s Water Monitoring and Standards tracked the rainfall totals for the Chatham, finding 3.93 inches during the storm's 48 hours, with .86 inches of rain having fallen 24 hours before the storm ended.

For Wednesday, the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures in Chatham are expected to rise to 60 degrees, under mostly sunny skies and remain breezy throughout the day, winds pushing through between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts of 35 mph a possibility.

After a drop in temperatures to 43 overnight, warmer temperatures are expected to return almost 60 degrees on Thursday, with mostly sunny skies and winds at 5 mph.

On Thursday night, the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures to fall back to 46, the winds also remaining calm at 5 mph.

On Friday, showers could return after 2 p.m., under mostly cloudy skies, a high of 57 predicted, with showers throughout the day dropping up to another two inches of rainfall by Friday night and a low of 50 degrees.

For Halloween weekend, more showers may fall on Saturday before 2 p.m., with a high of 63 degrees predicted and Saturday overnight, a possibility of rain and low of 49, before temperatures may rise on Sunday for trick-or-treating to a high of 62 degrees, under mostly cloudy skies.
