Primary Election Day In Chatham: When, Where To Vote

CHATHAM, NJ — The primary election is only a few days away, and Chatham residents will be able to cast their votes in town and county races.

Chatham Borough will have a new mayor next year, as Thaddeus Kobylarz recently announced that he won't seek re-election.

There are three seats up for grabs in the borough: the mayor, who will serve a four-year term, and two council seats, which will serve three-year terms.

No local contests are expected in this year's primary election.

Council member Carolyn Dempsey has put in a nomination for mayor. Brian Hargrove and Justin Strickland have put in a bid for the two open council seats.

In Chatham Township, incumbents Chatham Mayor Ashley Felice and Deputy Mayor Mark Hamilton are seeking re-election. They will be challenged in November by Democrats Jen Rowland and Marty McHugh.

When To Vote

The deadline for voter registration was May 16 – 21 days before the primary election.

The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is May 30 — seven days before the election. In-person submission of mail-in ballots must be submitted by 8 p.m. on June 6.

In-person early voting on Vote-by-Mail Ballots is currently available at the County Clerk's Office Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., up until Monday, June 5, at 3 p.m., the Morris County Clerk's office said.

Voters can vote in person at their assigned polling location on Tuesday, June 6. Election Day Polling places will be open from 6 a.m. through 8 p.m.

Where Can I Vote?

Those looking for a drop box can use any in Morris County.

Residents can deposit their ballot approximately 45 days prior to each election. All Ballot Drop boxes will be closed at 8 p.m. on Election Day.

The ballot drop boxes are all located outside and are constantly monitored. They look like USPS Blue Mailboxes, but they're red, white, and blue, and they say "Morris County – Official Ballot Drop Box," officials said.

The Vote-By-Mail ballots (VBMs) will be picked up on a daily basis and brought to the Board of Elections. All security measures will be followed when collecting and transporting the VBMs, officials said.
