Snow, Winter Weather Could Hit Chatham

Residents may see up to three inches of snow by Friday, the National Weather Service forecasted, with Chatham schools closed on Friday.

CHATHAM, NJ — Chatham residents could see up to three inches of snow fall with a storm expected to wind down by Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Ahead of the storm, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory to run from 7 p.m. on Thursday to 1 p.m. on Friday. That advisory called for up to three inches of snow in some sections of Warren and Morris Counties.

The School District of the Chathams announced its closure on Thursday on the district's website, of all school buildings and district offices.

The storm is expected to begin as rain, snow and sleet before 2 a.m. Friday, then sleet between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., before changing over to freezing rain after 4 a.m., the National Weather Service forecasted.

There could also be wind gusts up to 25 mph from the storm, the National Weather Service predicted.

Rain and freezing rain is expected to continue through noon on Friday before tapering to rain between noon and 4 p.m., with a high of 40 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

Into Friday: Rain, snow, and sleet before 2am, then sleet between 2am and 4am, then freezing rain after 4am. Low around 29. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday: Rain or freezing rain before noon, then a chance of rain between noon and 4pm. High near 42. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 21.
