CHATHAM, NJ — Chatham stores, eateries and service providers can still join in on the Fishawack fun, rain or shine, by filling out an application now, due by Aug. 20, to take part in the Retro Fishawack Celebration.

It’s been 50 years since the first “Fishawack Day” was held, at first biennially and as a sidewalk sale, to celebrate Chatham’s place in Native American history.

After the Fishawack Festival was sidelined in 2020 because of COVID, it was recently rescheduled for September, after coronavirus restrictions were lifted in the late spring, a timeframe too narrow to schedule it for when the festival usually happens in the summer season.

Organized by the Chatham Borough Department of Community Services, the Retro Fishawack Festival is planned in Downtown Chatham at Reasoner Park, Firehouse Plaza, Main Street, the Library of the Chathams and Post Office Plaza. On Sept. 24, it will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., on Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sept. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Normally required for registration, the Chatham Borough Council recently approved fee waivers in 2021 of the Chatham Business Fee, Chatham Food Eatery Fee, Chatham Non-Profit Fee, Board of Health Fee and Fire Permit Fee.
