CHATHAM, NJ — Election day has passed, and as we await the certified official results, let's take a look at how Chatham Township voted in the township committee race.

It's important to keep in mind that these are the unofficial results for the 2023 general election and may not include early voting, vote-by-mail, provisional ballots, or write-in votes. Final certification of the results must be done by Nov. 22.

Despite that, let's take a look at what has come in.

For the Township Committee race, Republican incumbents Ashley Felice and Mark Hamilton were ousted by Democrats Jen Rowland and Marty McHugh by less than 200 votes.

Rowland and McHugh will join Stacey Ewald and Mike Choi on the Chatham Township Committee next year, giving the Democrats a 4-1 voting majority when they are seated in January.

According to officials, Rowland grew up in Madison and has lived in Chatham Township for almost 20 years, where she has raised her five children, all of whom attend or have attended Chatham Public Schools.

Rowland previously chaired the Chatham Education Foundation's Audit Committee. She currently chairs the New Jersey Innovation Institute's Audit and Finance Committee and is on the board of the University of Delaware's Women's Leadership Initiative.

McHugh has lived in Chatham for about 30 years. He and his wife Lisa raised their two daughters in Chatham, where they both attended Chatham Public Schools. He currently serves on the Township Zoning Board of Adjustment and formerly served on the Environmental Commission.

"I've known both Jen and Marty for many years. They are outstanding candidates with deep community roots. They bring a wealth of knowledge, resourcefulness, and hard work to everything they do. The Township is quite fortunate to have them stepping up to serve our community once again," Ewald said.
