CHATHAM, NJ — The nor'easter is tearing through New Jersey and may continue through Tuesday. Here's how it's affecting Chatham so far.

Snowfall

Forecasters projected up to 2 feet of snow in Morris County throughout the storm, and the nor'easter certainly met the hype.

The storm hit Morris County harder than almost any area in New Jersey on Monday. The National Weather Service reported 14 or more inches throughout the area. Morris Township and Randolph topped the county's snowfall list with 19 inches each as of Monday afternoon.

Chatham had 12.5 inches of snow at noon Monday, according to the NWS.

Here's the NWS forecast for Chatham as of 4 p.m. Monday:

  • Monday night: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Areas of blowing snow before 9pm. Low around 28. Blustery, with a north wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
  • Tuesday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 32. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
  • Tuesday night: A chance of snow, mainly before 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 24. North wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Closures

The School District of the Chathams went virtual Monday and will stay remote Tuesday. The Board of Education meeting — originally set for Monday — was also pushed to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Read more: Chatham Schools Going Virtual Tuesday, Board Meeting Postponed

Outages

So far, so good. Jersey Central Power & Light hasn't reported any active outages as of 4 p.m. Monday in Chatham. But residents can report outages to JCP&L by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), going online or texting OUT to 544487.
