Cherry Hill's National Night Out Might Move Indoors Due To Flooding Rain

A flood watch will be in effect during Tuesday evening's event. But National Night Out will take place rain or shine.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — National Night Out in Cherry Hill will take place Tuesday rain or shine, officials said. But with flooding rain possible, the event might move indoors.

The annual gathering is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday outside the Municipal Building (820 Mercer St.). If it's raining, activities that can occur indoors will take place in the Municipal Building and Community Center.

Cherry Hill will be under a flood watch from 2 p.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday. Excessive rainfall could cause flooding during that time, according to the National Weather Service.

National Night Out is an initiative to improve bonds between police and the public during an evening of family fun. Most participating communities hold local NNO events on the first Tuesday of August.

With storms predicted Tuesday evening, many communities throughout the region are canceling, postponing or modifying their respective National Night Out events.

For Cherry Hill's event, attendees are asked to either park at Saint Thomas Greek Orthodox Church or the West Stadium lot. Shuttles from the West Stadium lot will be available.

Only handicap parking will be available at the Municipal Building.

  • Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 76. Southwest wind around 5 mph.
  • Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Tuesday night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 71. East wind around 5 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Wednesday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
