CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Heavy rainfall flooded roadways, interrupted transit and washed out summer gatherings as storms pushed through Camden County — all while Tropical Storm Debby traveled closer to the region.

Some of the county received 4-plus inches of rain from Tuesday night's flash floods, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Several PATCO stations closed overnight because of flood waters, but service to all stations has since resumed.

Flash flooding concerns will linger from Thursday through Saturday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) predicting additional rain in the coming days. Tropical Storm Debby — currently swirling over coastal Georgia and the Carolinas — will likely impact the Mid-Atlantic region later this week, the agency said.

Forecasters remain uncertain about Debby's magnitude in the region. But the greatest risk for heavy rain and flash flooding will fall on Friday and Friday night, the NWS said. If there's enough rain, rivers could flood this weekend into early next week, according to the weather agency.

PATCO temporarily closed some of its stations because of flooding Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. NJ Transit provided shuttles at some of the stops but was unable to reach the Haddonfield and Westmont stations because of roadway flooding.

Normal PATCO operations resumed as of about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Several roadways were flooded in Haddonfield. The borough also reported a blown transformer at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on Belmont Avenue.

Many cites and towns in Camden County had local gatherings planned Tuesday evening for National Night Out — an initiative to enhance relationships between law enforcement and the public. Several of those events still took place, while some moved indoors. But some municipalities postponed or canceled their National Night Out gatherings because of the heavy storms and uncertain forecast entering Tuesday evening.

Alternative band Eve 6's outdoor concert, which was scheduled for Wednesday night at Haddon Lake Park, was canceled because of the "unfavorable weather forecast and in the interest of public safety," said the Camden County Government, which manages the park's summer concert series.
