Sinkhole Forms On Cherry Hill Highway
The cause of the sinkhole hasn't been determined, but Route 38 has reopened following emergency roadwork.
CHERRY HILL, NJ — A sinkhole formed Thursday on a highway in Cherry Hill, prompting emergency roadwork, officials said.
The sinkhole was in the center lane of Route 38 westbound, near the Cooper Landing traffic circle. It stretched about 3 feet by 6 feet and was only a few inches deep, according to a spokesperson for the New Jersey Department of Transportation, which manages the roadway.
NJDOT crews completed temporary repairs Thursday and put a plate over the sinkhole. Permanent repairs will take place next week, according to the state agency.

The cause of the sinkhole has not been determined.
A significantly larger sinkhole formed on a Cherry Hill roadway earlier this year after a sewer line collapsed under Partridge Lane. The hole was 20 feet wide and 10 feet deep.
